This textbook on the surgery of the upper cervical spine is written b y several experts with training and a large experience with these surgeries. It was a pleasure to read and review. Both the adult and pediatric spine are covered thoroughly. The authors start by going the the metrics and measurements of the bony structures. Then, they cover the biomechanics of the C spine. They do not waste time and go on to describe the normal radiology of this region. Anomalies and trauma of the atlas and axis as well as the juncture of the basiocciput are then described. They use line drawings, radiographs, MRIs, and CTs to make their claims. Next, they move onto a historical account of the major innovators in this field. Subsequently, they describe their own experience and the experience of other with this form and subspecialty of neurosurgery. They move on sequentially to each region of the C spine. This book can be of great value to orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeon, trauma specialists, residents, fellows, and medical students.
