Kant's theory of justice continues to exert a powerful influence on contemporary discussions of justice and equality. Modern theorists disagree, however, regarding the implications of Kant's theory for the state's responsibility for public welfare. A traditional interpretation holds that Kant's political theory simply constitutes an account of the constraints which reason places on the state's authority to regulate external action.

Alexander Kaufman argues that this traditional interpretation succeeds neither as a faithful reading of Kant's texts nor as a plausible, philosophically sound reconstruction of a `Kantian' political theory. Rather he argues that Kant's political theory articulates a positive conception of the state's role. In particular, Kantian justice requires that each member of society must be guaranteed the opportunity to realize his or her purposive capacities. In order to secure this guarantee, Kantian
justice requires interventions to ensure equality of capabilities.

The reader comes away from the book waiting for each country or territory to evolve and start with a new constitution based on the old beliefs "sold" to the people as what they want or really need. It is a trying read that swings the pendulum from tribal hates to new found friends. I for one would not recommend the writing to anyone between seven (7) to seventy (70)....let alone thirteen (13) younger or older. Thanks Mary

The loess belt was chosen because it is a region with only one type of soil and climate as these are all-important factors where farming is concerned.

Crop plants and animals are described, together with their origin. New tools such as the plough, wheen, wagon and scythe are introduced. Groundplans of farm buildings, the history of the outhouse and the presence or absence of hamlets are presented as well, and the impact of farming on the landscape is not forgotten.

The loess belt was not an island and the world beyond its boundaries was important for new ideas, new materials and new people.

Summarising six millennia of agriculture, the thinking in terms of the Western European loess belt as one agricultural-cultural unit seems justified.

The title of this book is very deceiving. I do not think the authors pull it off in the end. This book is a tremendous effort to describe the brains and inner workings of a neurophysiological multiple electrode array in full operating condition. The authors do a stellar job of describing the electronics and physics of the analog digital circuitry, the Hadamard code technique, fancy capacitors and amplifers, in addition to the engineering mathematical equations which describe the machine which controls the recordings of a sample 16 electrode array. The book is going to be a very good reference manual for neurophysiologists, physicists, and engineers, but perhaps a little too much for the average neurosurgeon or physiology researcher.

This is the cutting edge of cortical prosthetics where creating computers and brain machines combined interfaces will succeed. It may be possible from the recent past into the future to control human thinking and thus the mind itself. Psychokinesis and remote viewing are such examples. When does the end of the machine stop and the mind begins? These researchers are to be applauded for their fine efforts. I do not think that human mind control is the right thing to do on moral grounds. This is when machines start invading consciousness and then ultimately influence our personalities and the very substance of who we are. I believe we are on the verge of a cortical thinking artificial implant. This is treading into very dangerous waters morally. In summary, the book is very detailed and well written from the electronic viewpoint. Perhaps the conclusions needed
