Origin of Elements in the Solar System: Implications of Post-1957 Observations

Product Description
Based on an American Chemical Society Symposium organized by Professors Glenn Seaborg and Oliver Manuel, this volume provides a comprehensive record of different views on this important subject at the end of the 20th century. They have assembled a blend of highly respected experimentalists and theorists from astronomy, geology, meteoritics, planetology and nuclear chemistry and physics to discuss the origin of elements in the solar system. The intent was to include all points of view and let history judge their validity.Origin of Elements in the Solar System: Implications of Post-1957 Observations Review
Although pricy, this proceedings volume is an essential text for serious students of the chemical structure of the Solar System. Editor Professor Oliver Manuel is himself a key role player in this investigation, and puts into practices a method that is extremely satisfying for the empirical scientist - he weights measurement over theory. As an astronomer, the presentation of these data has been crucial in my understanding of the Solar System, and in the resolution of so-called "anomalies" in solar measurements. Ultimately, I have been able to use this volume and its comprehensive references and citations to draw my own conclusions from arguments on both sides of many contentious issues surrounding our Sun and its family of satellites. This book receives my highest recommendation. It may well be the best few hundred dollars a serious solar scientist could spend.Hilton Ratcliffe
