This textbook was used for my statics and dynamics courses. As an undergraduate engineering student, learning statics from this book was pretty good. However, the chapter summaries are too brief, most are merely a collection of all the equations that were presented in the preceding section. No insights or "big picture" thoughts on how to identify types of problems or approach them. The images used throughout are high quality. A nice feature is how the difficulty of a problem is indicated by a thermometer. The dynamics section was very hard to learn from. The authors used inductive examples to develop the ideas of dynamics which is indeed creative but I found to be very difficult to sit through when you just want to be told what a concept is, why it's important, and how to apply it.After completing the course and moving on to dynamics I was exposed to a better textbook; Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Statics & Dynamics by Beer, Johnston, et al. These authors have been writing this textbook for much longer than Costanzo, Plesha, and Gray.
